Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

  • We're just starting to think about new floors. What's the first step?

The best place to start is by visiting our showroom to explore your options, or by booking a complimentary in-home measurement. We offer free estimates on all flooring projects, so there is no cost to learn what your project will involve.

Many homeowners find it easier to narrow down their flooring choices once they have a better understanding of the space, the installation requirements, and the products that will work best for their needs.

  • Can we see samples in our own home before deciding?

Absolutely — and we highly recommend it.

Our complimentary shop-at-home service allows us to bring flooring samples directly to your home. Seeing a flooring sample in the actual room, under your home's natural and artificial lighting, can give you a much better sense of how the colour, texture, and finish will look in your space.

  • Do we need to measure the rooms ourselves?

No. Our experienced estimator will take care of the measurements for you.

Accurate measurements are an important part of any flooring project. Rooms are rarely perfectly square, and proper measurements help ensure that we order the right amount of material while minimizing unnecessary waste.

Choosing the Right Floor

  • How do we choose between hardwood, laminate, and luxury vinyl?

The right flooring depends on a combination of style, durability, lifestyle, and budget.

Solid hardwood offers the authentic beauty and timeless appeal of real wood and remains a popular choice for many homeowners. Laminate provides the appearance of hardwood at a more affordable price point and has come a long way in terms of realism and durability.

Luxury vinyl click flooring is another popular option. Today's products can closely replicate the appearance of hardwood or ceramic tile while offering excellent durability, easy maintenance, and a warmer feel underfoot than traditional tile.

Our team can help you compare the options and determine which flooring is best suited to your space.

  • Will laminate really look like hardwood?

Today's laminate flooring can look remarkably similar to real hardwood.

Advances in printing technology, textures, and surface finishes have made modern laminate much more realistic than the products of the past. Many of our customers are surprised by how closely today's styles resemble natural hardwood once installed.

The best way to compare them is to see the products side by side. Our showroom makes it easy to compare different flooring types, colours, textures, and finishes before making your decision.

  • Why can flooring look different at home than it did in the showroom?

Lighting can make a significant difference.

Showroom lighting is typically brighter and more consistent than the lighting in your home. Natural light, the direction your windows face, light fixtures, wall colours, and even the size of the room can all affect how a flooring colour appears.

A floor that looks warm in the showroom may appear cooler or more neutral at home — or vice versa. This is one of the reasons we encourage customers to view samples in their own space before making a final decision.

We also carry lighting products, allowing you to consider both your flooring and lighting choices together.

  • We have radiant floor heat. Does that limit our flooring options?

Not necessarily. Flooring technology has evolved considerably, and certain high-quality vinyl flooring products can be installed over radiant floor heating systems.

Because compatibility can vary between products and heating systems, be sure to mention radiant heat early in the selection process. Our team can help identify the flooring options that are appropriate for your system.

Installation

  • Who installs our flooring?

Our installations are completed by experienced, licensed and insured flooring contractors.

We take pride in working with professional installers who understand that quality installation is just as important as choosing the right flooring. Our goal is for your installation to be completed properly, on schedule, and with respect for your home.

Want to see examples of our work? Visit our Recent Jobs section to see completed projects throughout Peterborough, Lindsay, and the Kawarthas.

  • Can we install it ourselves and save money?

Yes. We offer materials for customers who prefer to complete their own installation.

Laminate flooring, in particular, can be a good option for experienced DIY homeowners. We also offer pre-cut and labelled putting green kits that are designed with DIY installation in mind.

Other flooring types, including hardwood, tile, and carpet, can require specialized tools and installation techniques. Mistakes with these materials can be costly to correct, so many homeowners choose to have them professionally installed.

Whether you choose DIY or professional installation, we're happy to help you select the right materials for your project.

Beyond Flooring

  • Can you help with window coverings at the same time as our flooring?

Yes. We offer a full selection of custom window coverings through our dedicated window coverings showroom, located just minutes from our flooring location.

Our selection includes horizontal and vertical blinds, roller shades, shutters, and other custom window covering options from leading brands including Hunter Douglas, Shadex, Eclipse Shutters, and Shadeomatic.

    Professional installation is also available.

  • Do you sell anything besides flooring and window coverings?

Yes. While flooring remains at the heart of what we do, we offer a variety of products to help complete your space.

    Our product selection includes:

    • Flooring and area rugs
    • Custom window coverings
    • Canyon Stone for fireplaces, feature walls, and exterior applications
    • Lighting from Light House Co.
    • Putting green kits for residential and commercial applications

In short, we can help with floors, walls, windows, and more.

Logistics

  • Do you work outside Peterborough?

Yes. Our installation services cover Peterborough, Lindsay, and the wider Kawartha region and even the GTA.

Our product supply area extends considerably farther, and we've supplied flooring for projects in Muskoka, Haliburton, Ottawa, and other areas throughout Ontario. We work with homeowners as well as builders, contractors, designers, and other industry professionals.

If your project is outside our regular installation area and you'd like us to handle the installation as well, please let us know early in the planning process. Installation availability depends on the project's location.

  • Can we buy flooring online instead of coming into the showroom?

Yes. Select flooring products are available through our online shop.

However, our showroom offers a significantly larger selection than what's currently available online. Visiting in person also allows you to compare products, colours, textures, and finishes side by side.

If you're unable to visit the showroom, you can explore our virtual showroom walkthrough online or take advantage of our complimentary shop-at-home service. We'll bring selected samples directly to you, making it easier to find the right flooring from the comfort of your home.
